It’s nice to meet you! We know we may not look like much, but believe us when we say that we’ve set out to do some pretty big things when it comes to tracking firefighters’ exposures to carcinogens.

But Exposure Journal, you ask. How did this come about? What set you down this path that ultimately led us to the creation of a health-based web application tailored to the firefighting industry?

We’re glad you asked!

Exposure Journal’s foundations began in art school, where our founder, Dave, trained as a painter. Late in his college career, he found interactive design. Once he discovered the incredible things that could be accomplished when code came together with stunning visuals, he knew he’d found his path forward. Upon leaving art school, Dave began working with clients in New York, and has since worked all over the world, including in China, Africa, Korea, and England. Some of his very favorite projects involved working for the National Institutes of Health, the American Lung Association, the University of Oregon, Portland Seminary, Oregon Health and Safety Section, and countless small business clients.

But why?

We feel that design, as a process, enables us to solve real-world problems, which, in turn, allows us to create change in the lives of the people who use our products. And for us, that’s the crux of it: we want to use our calling to imagine and implement solutions that can improve the world around us. Whether it’s working on strategic solutions for international leadership partnerships, business systems strategies, or technological solutions for issues such as carcinogen exposure tracking, mental and behavioral health, or post traumatic stress, we feel the most engaged when we can roll up our sleeves and dive-head first into something that can foster positive change in the world we live in.

We’re excited to begin this journey, and we hope you’ll stick around to get to know us a little better as we explain the ways in which we feel we can help those who are most willing to lay their lives on the line for us.
