An Overview of Puffer Finance Features and Insights
Puffer Finance Review
Puffer Finance is a Native Liquid Restaking protocol built on EigenLayer.
Its purpose is to bridge Ethereum’s liquid staking with EigenLayer’s native staking capabilities.Puffer also offers a unique combination of features, created to help redefine the staking landscape.
Puffer Finance stands out because it allows validators to participate in the network with minimal barriers. They can join with a low bond of only 1 or 2 ETH, compared to the regular 32 ETH needed for running a solo validator.
Once they join, validators get to earn Proof of Stake rewards, which lets them unlock additional restaking rewards through EigenLayer.
The project also introduced an entire spectrum of restaking modules, each of which comes with its own unique set of EigenLayer Application Verification Scripts (AVSs).
All that validators are required to do is select a strategy, and submit evidence on-chain while fulfilling bonds and smoothing commitments. From that point on, the smart contracts queue them as pending validators for that specific strategy.
Risks and Benefits of Puffer Finance in DeFi
As part of the DeFi sector, Puffer Finance also comes with the inherent risk of an emerging space. Validators risk losing up to 100% of their staked ETH due to slashing penalties when restaking their crypto, typically because of user errors or software bugs. While Puffer uses technology that significantly reduces this risk, the risk is not entirely eliminated.
However!
Lowering the barrier to entry by eliminating the need to stake 32 ETH, instead reducing it to only 1 or 2 ETH. By making staking more accessible thanks to the lower entry barrier, Puffer Finance can promote a more decentralized validator for the Ethereum network.
Users get to earn rewards on deposited ETH while still having access to liquid representation (pufETH) which they can use in the DeFi sector.
So, Puffer Finance’s technology significantly reduces the risk of slashing penalties for users.
