Life Lessons From a Learner Driver
Embrace the learning experience wholeheartedly
Early this year, I took up driving lessons, and I am sorry to say I am still not test-ready. As I am writing right now I am so frustrated that I am not yet where I thought I would be. During these moments, I constantly remind myself that I am better than I was when I started. This got me thinking about how learning to drive teaches me about life and the right way to approach life’s learning curves.
Focus on the moment
Concentration is essential when driving. You must be observant and not just staring ahead; you must be present. If you have something on your mind that is bringing your mood down, tell yourself to leave it so you can focus on driving. Most accidents happen because the driver is not concentrating and looking out for hazards; as a driver, you need to be fully aware of your surroundings.
Similar to life, you need to focus on the moment. When things are not going well and you are consumed by worries, you still have life to live, so focus on the task at hand and take it one step at a time.
Don’t focus on the mistakes — work out how to fix it.
Whenever I made a mistake in driving, I would focus on it and it would ruin the rest…
