A look at a great arts group
Battersea Chapel, Battersea in London, and a very vibrant rehearsal in taken place. The subject is a musical, and the performers are young and very able and outgoing children. They are preparing for a competition against other arts groups in the area. They are called Individuals Involved in Arts. Melissa Martin, founder of Individuals involved in Arts has set up her weekly workshops in Battersea Chapel, Battersea, London SW11. A very vibrant rehearsal is taking place by children all under 10yrs old who are very capable and outgoing. They are rehearsing an abridged version of their last family showcase Oliver Twist with solo performances which they will perform at the Big Local Annual Event.
Individuals Involved in Arts is run by a diversely talented group of ladies who provide activities in the arena of arts to school children in the Battersea area. Melissa Martin assisted by Drama teacher Nerissa Clarke and assistant Charice Evans provide After School and Saturday activities ranging from Dance to Photography to Circus Skills, Drama or Martial Arts. Drama and Musical Theatre is also high on the agenda in this organisation. What is unique in this group, is that they also provide an avenue for the children to be creative. This has resulted in once shy kids becoming very outgoing and confident in their performances, and the parents are noticing too.
Individuals Involved in Arts as well as the weekly workshops also provide in the arena of arts after school activities to primary schools in Battersea area and wider Wandsworth area ranging from Dance to photography to circus skills or drama. They also have a book able birthday party service.
The school is supported by volunteers who assist with drama, dance, business management and administrative support. The volunteers are using their skills to help with their professional development or to learn and develop new skills.
However the growth is there, and word of mouth has enabled them to grow and rightly so. There are plans to spread the reach to other areas of London including Lambeth and Fulham, as well as other parts including Surrey. But it is not just geographically where the ladies are going to expand. It’s also the disciplines. There are plans to create agencies to help talented but under the radar musicians and actors to express themselves, as well as creating a school.
All in all Melissa Martin as founder of Individuals Involved in Arts and her volunteers has a great future ahead of them. Check them out and watch them grow.
