(Washington, DC) In a 30-minute call described by the White House as “perfect,” President Joseph R. Biden this week hinted that US support of Ukraine as Russia makes threatening troop movements along the Ukrainian border comes with a condition. In the call, Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky specifically asked Biden for US military aid. After reiterating US support for Ukraine, and his personal fondness for Zelensky, Biden added “I would like you to do us a favor, though…”

That favor, we have learned, is that Biden would like Zelensky to investigate Tiffany Trump, the daughter of former president Donald Trump. Specifically, here is what the president said:

“I heard you had a prosecutor who was very good and he was shut down and that’s really unfair. A lot of people are talking about that, the way they shut your very good prosecutor down and you had some very bad people
involved. One other thing — there’s a lot of talk of Trump’s daughter, and a lot of people want to find out about that, so whatever you can do would be great.”

Biden then informed Zelensky that he would have attorney and confidant Michael Avenatti, a “highly respected man,” in Biden’s words, reach out to him, and that U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland would also be reaching out.

The call was brought to the attention of authorities by a whistle-blower who thought the president’s remarks presented a grave danger to national security. Republicans were quick to denounce the whistle-blower, dismissing notions of heroism, instead saying the whistleblower appeared to be a part of the deep state aimed at harming Biden’s presidency.

“I have zero problems with this phone call. There’s no quid pro quo here,” Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said, adding that any talk of impeaching Biden over this call is “insane.”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), when asked by reporters what he thought of Biden saying “I would like you to do us a favor, though,” leapt to the president’s defense, incorrectly accusing reporters of adding the word “though” to the president’s statement in an effort to make the call seem improper. Then, when asked how he planned to defend the president from impeachment proceedings, McCarthy added, “Why would we move forward with impeachment? There’s not something that you have to defend here. The president did nothing in this phone call that’s impeachable.”
