Beijing city at smaller scale

What might look to you as a Bird’s Eye view of whistling night of a metropolitan at the first glance, is actually a scaled model of whole Beijing city. Located in Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall, this fine work is open to public which provides a great way to learn more about the city’s past, present and future.

Spread across four floors, the museum shares with you the treasure of Chinese history and future through elegant models. Starting from Level 1, you will witness breath taking models of the great Forbidden city, Summer Palace and much more.

Wooden Model of The Forbidden City

The main attraction of the museum is the located on the next level, model of present Beijing city, which is spread in a huge space of 300 sq. m. in a duplex hall. The experience of this model is further enhanced through the lighting effects with it. Below is a snap of the hard work.

Physical Model of Beijing located at Level 2, Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall

Right from the first class in an architecture school, we are told about the importance of physical models. I strongly believe such an effort for more cities could result in an effective way to mitigate with thousand challenges and think of future. A definite help to urbanists, designers, architects and planners, it will surely get us out of the digital world to think of solutions on human scale.

Definitely, what sketch is to an artist, physical model is to an architect.

The place also locates the model of future Beijing city. Comparing the scale of the past we can easily relate the dominance of vertical of horizontal in the recent time.

Top floor of the building features fantastic structures ranging from the historical ‘hutongs’ to the modern era marvel like Bird’s Nest.

A visit to such a museum is a dream come true for an architect. It is a paradise for those who love the art of model making. And definitely a well with indefinite water of knowledge . Located near Qianmen street I would describe this spot as a must visit attraction for every enthusiastic traveler.
