Diamonds Aren’t Special
And neither is your love.
It’s a combination of vasopressin, adrenaline, dopamine, serotonin, endorphins and (above all) oxytocin … a mind-altering cocktail of stimulants and psychoactives that dupes two people into making each other miserable for years-to-decades on end, in the vain hope that things will get better because the sex was good once — Nature’s way of ensuring we don’t kill each other for long enough to produce and raise offspring … no more, no less.
“Love is like crawling through broken glass and dogshit.” — Greg, Misfits ¹.
This year, however, many of you have been alone for most (if not all) of it and haven’t so much as seen a potential love, let alone touched one.
You won’t be seeing or touching one today either.
Make the most of it and take heed … because this is the best it gets: none of the heartache that comes when your relationship inevitably fails, but none of the heartbreak that comes with it either.
Happy Valentine’s Day, from your resident anti-hippy 😜

¹ The original, British series, of course, not the inevitably dreadful US remake.
