Did you know that Donald Trump single-handedly impacted every flight in 2017? What an accomplishment. It’s almost as big as his purge of the middle class.

The credit-taker-in-chief fired off a tweet at 9:13 a.m. on Jan 2, stating how flying in 2017 was “the best and safest year on record!” because of him. He prefaced it by boasting about how he was “very strict on Commercial aviation.”

It’s a fact that 2017 was the safest year for commercial air travel. And, no, it’s not because of Trump. The Aviation Safety Network reported that only 10 fatal accidents took place last year, which was one every 7,360,000 flights. But let’s take it a step further — there hasn’t been a deadly domestic flight since 2009, and it’s surprising Trump didn’t look that up and find a way to blame it on Barack Obama. On second thought, it makes sense because Trump’s other slogan is “Fuck Facts.”

One of the entertaining parts of Trump’s Twitter tirades is watching the MAGA clan (and Russian bots) come out and pat their president on the back for something he didn’t do. Because of their inability to read, someone will have to say the tweet aloud, and they’ll think that he’s making the country better and won’t think twice about the narcissistic undertone.

The use of “I” in the first sentence means that he wants all the attention on what he did. But he didn’t do much. The fascinating part is how much different it reads without that piece. If that happened, there’s nothing to criticize. But, alas, here we are.

Here’s an important aside: let’s go and thank all of the pilots, flight attendants, air traffic controllers and everyone else who keep our skies safe on a day-to-day basis. Y’all are the real MVPs.

Hopefully, the theme of 2018 is Trump taking credit for things that are wholly preposterous. This month, it’s air travel. Next month, it’s veganism. By July, Trump will be talking about how he traveled back in time and locked Henry Ford in his cellar so he could take credit for starting the assembly line.

You know what, I want to get in on this outlandish trend. I’m taking credit for the Golden State Warriors winning the NBA championships in 2015 and 2017. The best years on record!
