I’m tired. Too bad. Time to get up.
Sometimes, the important stories get missed just because we’re tired of reading them
I know, it’s so rare, right? Especially given all the happy unicorn discoveries and flowers and puppies we have in the news these days.
Hear me out for a moment, if you would… A story was published, right here on Medium just two days ago, and hardly anyone has noticed. It’s not my story. It was written by a very articulate man, who speaks the truth about a currently developing, completely appalling situation.
Let me put it this way: I’m a poet. Not a politician. And this boils my blood.
The subject of this essay is quite frankly so appalling that it shouldn’t matter. Taking money from people affected with HIV/AIDS, people who will die without that funding because it’s a last resort to pay for their treatment, to further fund disgusting policies to rip families apart and put children in cages.
How is this my America? HOW? I mean, seriously. How much worse can this get?
The thing is? No one seems to have noticed. Is this because the author is relatively new to Medium and needs to gather a broader audience? Possibly. But I don’t think so.
Is it because the author is talking about two marginalized groups affected and people really don’t care? Also possible. But? Again, I don’t think so.
I’m starting to think that it’s simply that we are tired. Tired of the constant bombardment of more bad news, more corruption, more evil. More to be frightened of about this depolorable group who insist on supporting someone who is hell bent on ruining our country.
And they are using every means possible to ensure that the poor, the disenfranchised, the weak, the sick, the elderly, POC, and all of those who don’t fit into his small square box of useful to him and his supporters are removed by whatever means necessary. Regardless their American citizen status, regardless their worth to their families, communities, and society in general. They’re not following his rules, they’re not white, male, rich, and giving him money, so? Let’s do everything possible to get rid of them.

We can’t afford to be tired. We can’t afford to ignore what is happening. The days of polite or even just civil resistance are over. They haven’t stopped flinging mud for decades.
Let that sink in… It is DECADES that they have been slinging shit at our values. And we let them because? We’re too polite.
It’s too polite to kick a rapist in the balls too, but, damned if I ain’t gonna do it anyway!
Understand… They’re fighting dirty. It’s time we did the same or we’re going to lose this country we all love so much. And it’s time to start saving our children from the future these monsters want to create.
