Independent Media Outlet “The Young Turks” Raises $2 Mill. For Investigative Journalism
The Young Turks will soon hire their thirteenth investigative reporter after hitting their goal of $2,000,000 from their online campaign.
It’s worth noting that since there’s 57,019 individual donors reported, and over two million dollars raised, that puts the average donor’s total contribution to the campaign at around $35, very close to the famous $27 accomplished by the Bernie 2016 campaign.
This news is very important for a couple of reasons. One, it reinforces the power of the average donor, that a cause funded by regular Americans can have significant success, that no big money donors or special interests are needed to succeed anymore.
And two, most importantly, it shows the power of independent media.
When mainstream corporate media personalities make tens of millions and just sit in their studios making propaganda for corporate America while independent media outlets can raise only a couple million and hire several investigative reporting teams, it is very clear which one is better at allocating resources for the highest quality journalism.
This online journalism campaign by The Young Turks exemplifies the rise of independent media, and the want for independent media by the American people.
Notice how these awards are audience choice awards, not of the award board members, but of the voters for the awards.
The people have spoken: we don’t want corporate funded media, we don’t want media that works for the political establishment of both parties in Washington, we need media that works for the American people, and that works to bring real, true journalism to us, whether in the studio, or investigative reporting on the ground.

Let’s keep the train rolling, and keep supporting, and funding honest independent media.
