WASHINGTON, D.C. — Earlier this week, President Donald J. Trump pardoned the long dead boxer Jack Johnson, who was convicted under the Mann Act for buying a train ticket for a white girlfriend, in the early 20th century.

President Trump exonerated Johnson, who spent ten years in prison, calling the conviction “what many view as a racially motivated injustice,” because of course, some don’t see it that way and the view that his incarceration was justified is likely shared by some of the “fine people” who support the President.

However, in light of the Mueller probe and the pardon of former Bush aide Scooter Libby, who outed an active CIA agent as political retaliation at her husband, President Trump’s pardons are viewed by some as dog whistles for anyone who might feel pressure from the Mueller investigation to provide witness against the President or else face indictment.

“This begs the question: what did Jack Johnson know about the President? Was Johnson there when President Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen met with a Russian oligarch and close friend of Vladimir Putin [shortly before the inauguration]?” asked law professor, special prosecutor, and YouTube makeup tutorial star Joshua Morgenstern, as he demonstrated a remarkable contouring technique.

“What is it President Trump thinks he is protecting here? That’s what we all should be asking.”

ABC News package (I edited this!) about the exoneration of Jack Johnson, almost a decade ago.
