Donald J. Trump officially announced today that he will be adding Indiana governor, Mike Pence to the bottom of his ticket. Mr. Pence isn’t quite as well-known or widely covered as Mr. Trump, so here’s some facts to get yourself acquainted with the GOP’s candidate for VP.

  1. He’s the governor of Indiana

2. 57 years old, married with 3 children

3. He endorsed Sen. Ted Cruz (not Trump before Indiana primary)

4. He was a Congressman for 12 years, before being elected governor in 2012

5. Former conservative talk radio and TV host

7. He’s an OG Tea Partier

8. Widely considered extremely anti-LGBT. His ‘religious freedom’ bill from 2015 was criticized by some as sanctioning discrimination against the LGBT community.

9. He’s VERY socially conservative. Pence championed and signed one of the most strict abortion laws in the country, and in 2016 signed a law that mandated funerals be held for aborted fetuses.

10. He’s relatively new to the national stage, but conservatives and Republican insiders have held Pence in high-esteem for some time. In 2010, conservative activists at the Values Voter Summit voted Pence their top choice as a GOP presidential candidate in 2012.
