Sorry, I can’t write ‘funny’ or go into a rant about this

It’s too important to indulge less than the truth

Having failed a collective intelligence test by electing Donald Trump president in 2016, Americans get a second chance to undo some of that stupidity by voting Democrat in the mid-term elections, Nov. 6.

If the Democrats can wrestle control of the House away from Republicans, the carnage that Trump is doing to both his country and the world will be somewhat muted.

Signs point toward that outcome, but then I do not believe those election pundits who are predicting a Democrat win ever in their wildest imaginations thought the reality TV star would become president.

But he did.

And the toll has been incalculable to the United States and its allies.

Take the environment, for example.

Officially, Trump denies climate change, but in a 500-page report that has been buried, it is clear he and his cohorts ignore it because they believe it is unstoppable.

The Republicans think the “planet’s fate is already sealed,” the Washington Post reported Sept. 28, 2018.

And then there are, always, the Trump lies.

“(U.S. President Donald) Trump has been a serial liar about just about everything during his entire tenure in office…” Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale wrote in a story Oct. 22, but leading up to Tuesday’s vote, he has “rarely before deployed so many complete fabrications about so many important subjects at the same time.”

Democrats have been demonized by Trump as willing to give free cars to illegals. It is Democrats who are behind the migrants heading to America. The Democrats will abolish America’s borders and end insurance for those Americans with health problems.

All lies.

And they are lies designed to instill fear and hatred. Trump’s rhetoric in the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s election has been nothing short of venomous and dangerous. He has encouraged the misguided beliefs of those who live on the fringe — the survivalists, the conspiracy theory mob, those who believe in the deep state and that government is out to get them, those who hate society because they are not accepted by society. Trump is a magnet for these outsiders, he empowers them, helps them break those last tenuous bonds of decency and descend into hateful acts.

And then there is the attack on the free press, one of the cornerstones of democracy. He refers to the media — in particular CNN, The New York Times and the Washington Post — as enemies of the people.

The pontificating poltroon has cozied up to dictators like Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, while insulting America’s closest ally and trading partner, Canada. He called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “weak” and “dishonest” and has threatened ruination of Canada’s economy by putting a tariff on cars if he does not get his way in trade deals.

Not to mention the meddling of Russia in the 2016 presidential election, and the investigation into Trump’s actions by Robert Mueller.

He and his gang of Fox News and conservative radio hosts are deliberately trying to divide America, to created chaos, with, I believe, the goal of creating an authoritative government, killing the democracy.

And the Republican Party is following Trump like lemmings to the sea.

Some pundits say Tuesday’s mid-term elections are the most important in America’s history.

It’s hard to disagree with that assessment. The following video and song, “Lunatic Fringe” by Canadian rockers Red Ryder, nicely sums up the mental state of many hard-core supporters of Donald Trump.
