The NRA’s Dana Loesch, wanted to be a television star. Now she is!

According to NCIS: New Orleans co-executive producer Paul Guyot, the NRA’s current spokeswoman approached him a decade ago about wanting to star in a sitcom about “hot moms.” “Dana Loesch came to me 10yrs ago pitching a sitcom starring herself: ‘A hot young mom who does far-right radio show,’” Guyot tweeted earlier this week. “Said her age & looks would make 1 side hate her & 1 love her so everyone would watch. Was obsessed w the potential fame & money. I turned her down.”

Dana didn’t get that gig, but the NRA bought her proposal and she’s now their “hot mom” doing chilling NRA ads like this one — which play like the trailer of a horror movie called “They”. In the movie, “They” is the boogeyman the NRA leadership calls on its members to fight to save America.

Let’s take a look at the script of B-movie actress Dana reads as scary images roll in the background. Since “they” (and the corresponding, “them”) is not very descriptive or specific, I will substitute Boogeyman and Boogeypeople and, except for cleaning-up some grammar, leave the rest of Dana’s script alone (for now):

The Boogeyman uses the media to assassinate real news. The Boogeyman uses schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. The Boogeyman uses movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat his narrative over and over again. And then the Boogeyman uses the ex-president to endorse “the resistance.”

All to make Boogeypeople march. Make Boogeypeople protest. Make Boogeypeople scream racism and sexism and xenophobia and homophobia. To smash windows, burn cars, shut down interstates and airports, bully and terrorize the law-abiding — until the only option left is for the police to do their jobs and stop the madness.

And when that happens, Boogeypeople will use it as an excuse for their outrage. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom, is to fight this violence of lies with the clenched fist of truth.

I’m the National Rifle Association of America’s hot mom. And I’m free to the highest bidder. (sorry, she actually finished with) And I’m freedom’s safest place.

Unless you’re a lover of horror films and/or conspiracy theories, you might agree with Tamika Mallory, co-president of the Women’s March, who issued an open letter to NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre against what she called “irresponsible and dangerous propaganda” that advocates for violence against people who don’t agree with the Trump administration’s policies.

While I would never support the NRA’s tactics, I will take the liberty to flip Dana’s script back on the NRA — just to see how it might play.

The NRA uses their media (primarily NRA TV, NRA websites, and Fox News) to assassinate real news. They use their sponsorship of CPAC and other conservative forums to scare adults and children with their everybody-wants-to-take-your-freedom-away propaganda. They use their money to buy Senators and Congressmen who repeat their narrative over and over again. And then, they remind their president endorsing “reasonable gun control solutions” will cause NRA endorsements, donations, and campaign funding to dry-up.

All to make them kill background checks for private gun sales. Make them vote against banning assault-style weapons and high-capacity magazines. Make them scream ‘No’ to creating a federal database to track gun sales. To bully and terrorize the law-abiding supporters of gun control — until the next massacre of children by a perpetrator with an AR-15 takes place.

And when that happens, the NRA, their president, and the paid-for GOP members of the House and Senate will accuse gun control advocates of politicizing the tragedy. The only way we stop this, the only way we save our country and our freedom not to be killed, is to fight the NRA’s lies of violence with a clenched fist holding a ballot that votes the do-nothing legislators out of office.

We’re the #NeverAgain, #EnoughIsEnough generation of America. And we’re going to make America a safer place by taking gun policy out of the hands of the NRA!

Just sayin’: According to the NRA website, “The NRA is America’s preeminent gun rights organization, made up of nearly 5 million members.” According to the United States Census Bureau, the U.S. population is nearly 326 million people. How is it that any Congressman or Senator can claim they are representing the American people when their positions on gun control align with the NRA’s, i.e. only 1.5% of the population?

Note: At the time that the now-defunct Federal Assault Weapons Ban passed in 1994, the U.S. Department of Justice said, “In general, assault weapons are semiautomatic firearms with a large magazine of ammunition that were designed and configured for rapid fire and combat use.”
