Routine victory for United

Dropped points in this game would have really piled the pressure on Eric Ten Hag. However goals from Matthijs De Ligt, Marcus Rashford, who scored his first goal since March, and Alejandro Garnacho helped United to a routine win. Things could have however looked a lot different after Southampton were awarded a penalty with the game at 0–0. But Andrew Onana produced a brilliant save to keep the score level and ultimately ended the game with a well deserved clean sheet. Besides his goal De Ligt’s all round game was impressive. Amad Diallo also impressed on the wing and he seems to be staking his claim for a regular first team spot. New signing Ugarte also impressed when coming on too. United will be hoping Rashford’s goal can be the catalyst for future success as the Englishman has struggled considerably in recent months.

Arsenal are the real deal.

Whenever Arsenal get a set piece, there is a sense of inevitability. Arteta has built a team of giants. Without key men Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice, many doubted Arsenal’s chances of getting the three points away from home in the London derby. However, when there’s a will there’s a will and Arsenal were able to secure their third successive away derby victory in Sunday. Yesterday’s victory showed Arsenal strength in depth. This has been a criticism of Arteta in the past, but he seems to have adapted. This should bode well for the title race as strength in depth will be needed for a long season ahead. The cameo from Nwaneri was also great to see. A star for the future and maybe even today.

Sancho shines

After his deadline move to Chelsea, many doubted the rationale behind the move. But after Saturday’s performance, the winger may already be demanding a starting berth in this Chelsea team. Introduced at half time, Jason Sancho provided the assist to Christian Nkunku, and received the POTM award. He was Chelsea’s brightest spark and added a different dynamic to Chelsea’s play. I hope this isn’t a one off performance from Sancho and hope to see more of the same from him

The inevitable Haaland

After City went behind after 20 seconds, I’m sure there was little doubt in the stadium of City’s chances mounting a comeback, especially with a certain Erling Haaland in their team. Despite the upsetting news he received off the field, Haaland continued his early season goalscoring form and now has the record for the most premier league goals after fours games, beating Wayne Rooney’s record of eight with nine goals. Haaland has firmly put the league two striker abilities to bed and seems to be on a mission to beat his debut season record goal tally of 36 goals. Expect more from the world’s best striker

Slip up for Slot

After receiving heaps of praise for his start as Liverpool manager, it is evident that there’s still work to do with this Liverpool team. A 1–0 loss at Anfield was an incredibly rare occurrence under Jurgen Klopp, so a loss this early will give birth to doubts. Slot made some questionable changes to try and get Liverpool back into the game to no avail. Whether this defeat to Nottingham Forest was a blip or not, we wait and see.
