If you were anything like us when Google Plus launched 5 years ago, you would’ve definitely cringed at the idea of yet another social media platform wasting your time. You would’ve soon realised that you wouldn’t be the only one neglecting it and after all the fuss created around “Google’s new Facebook”, it would be crystal clear that we would all jump on it, but never really use it.

And needles to say your social media life would’ve barely been affected by it too. But as we started to look into it and at the clever ways Google have incorporated it in search crawlers, we know to advise our clients to never overlook the power of Google + has over business. Ever since Google realised there was no way they could compete with Facebook, they turned their focus on businesses that would invest time in creating business accounts and content for a bigger chance of raising visibility and credibility in organic searches. See below how.

Google My Business — is the Google Plus business profile, where you could add a brief description of your company, add pictures, share blogs, connect with other people, but it’s also the same place where people can leave their reviews and ratings, which is crucial for your reputation. This reinforces confidence and tells Google that you are a trustworthy brand. It’s bigger than Yelp reviews and it’s basically the first searches that show up on Google when looking a company up.

Google Authorship — Google Plus is also the place where you also claim authorship on all your posts. All the articles you share here will be listed as yours. Not only that, but as soon as people would search for your name or company name on search engines, all of your posts should pop up and add even more value to your results.

It’s hard to overlook the importance Google Plus has gained over the past couple of years, and it’s still interesting to see how so many companies choose to ignore the marketing benefits this platform has over their business. Question is, are you going to be one of them?
