Yes, we’ve all done them. We’ve all advertised on Facebook and sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. Sometimes we think we know what we’re doing, and other times we just target to whoever, only for the thrill of it.

But today we wanted to explain to you the difference between Boosted Posts and Promoted Posts and what this Power Editor is all about.

So sit down and have a read below, you’re going to find that the differences are not as appalling as you might have thought.

The Boosted Post

The post is meant to show organically to your followers. It’s what you post on your timeline, with the added benefit that you can enhance it so you can reach either friends of followers or targeted audiences that your post might be suitable for. Once you use the “Boost” button, the boosted post will be shown with a “sponsored” tag, to the audiences you selected. It looks identical to the post you had on your timeline and increases the chances of your page being “liked” by people who see your promotion.

The Promoted Post

This type of ad will be shown with a “sponsored” tag as well, to a larger number of fans from a list of interests and characteristics that you choose. The url of the website you want the ad to be directed to can’t be changed though. The “Like Page” CTA will only appear to users who don’t yet like your page. Like, comment and share features are available same as with the boosted post.

This ad will look 95% same as with other means of promoting, except the fact that vanity URLs are enabled in this version. Creating the ad becomes significantly easier, and there is an option to add a further CTA that is meant to increase your click-through-rate which ultimately is your end game.

So at a glance, it’s all very easy peasy, but in actual fact what makes or breaks an ad is your glowing copy, perfectly chosen image and last but not least, your destination page which is aimed at grabbing details or making people book your for your services.
