Why do your employees leave?

Working for somebody is an extremely personal choice and being part of someone’s team has a lot to do with the work and life balance. We live in a time where candidates invest a lot of time in getting the right qualifications and skills in order to land their dream job. As soon as something better comes around the corner, the temptation almost always wins over a secure job, especially for young workers who haven’t been in a role for longer than a year.

So what do we, as business owners and mentors ought to do, in order to keep our teams together and avoid forever-training new team members? What do employees need in order to be happy and not look for other opportunities? In order to understand this you have to put yourself in their shoes and understand how to see your business through their eyes.

Regardless whether your employee is working remotely or in-house, each and every one of them want to feel that they are part of the company and that their role is vital. The way to do that is by explaining how their role fits into the bigger picture, and how without it the engine wouldn’t work. Employees appreciate when they’re included in conversations, their opinion is being asked for and taken into consideration regardless whether it’s being applied or not.

Employees appreciate training and learning from you. Making this a regular part of the role and investing in developing their skills, not only it will make them be loyal, but they will also look up to you and trust your company and vision.

Giving feedback and rewarding performance is a true game changer. Appreciating your employees efforts will truly make them feel as if you don’t overlook their efforts and you are committed to really pushing them achieve their highest potential.

It’s pretty straightforward and it makes total sense. Keeping teams together works in a similar manner as investing time in growing your family and putting your children through school. The better the education, the higher the satisfaction later on, but if you leave them to their own devices, then you shouldn’t really have any real expectations. So what would it be?
