“Therapy Goal” Comic by Andrew Folts @fthelines.

April 1, 2023—If you’re trapped in a therapy loop, stop booking pointless weekly sessions, and start setting clear goals.

My first therapist was a plump middle age woman who nearly fell out of her recliner when I told her I’d done LSD.

We didn’t last long.

My second therapist was straight out of college and unfazed by my nebulous antics, which I appreciated, feeling at the time like a hot mess, existentially.

At first it was cathartic talking through my problems, but after a few months I started to repeat the same themes over and over.

Still, I hadn’t made much progress dealing with anxiety and depression, so I figured I should keep going — until one day when I realized something I’d thought impossible…

Therapy was actually making me worse.

Hack: Therapy Goal

After being in therapy on and off for the past few years the main thing I’ve learned is that most therapists are too nice.
