Pierre Gasly Sick Ahead of the 2022 Monza Grand Prix
8 September 2022 (Thursday)— Today Scuderia AlphaTauri announced that Gasly will not be on the track today as instructed by his doctor!
As of right now we’re not sure how serious it is and as to whether or not this will affect the race weekend. He’s not missing any important practice time on track since that only starts tomorrow, so the only things us fans will be missing out on today will be his appearance during the driver’s press conference.
We all know how much driver’s love (in the most sarcastic voice possible) their press conference appearances, so it’s a shame we won’t see him on present today. But how bad is his condition really and will it affect his race weekend? If he’s not fit to participate in FP1 tomorrow, who will step in his place as the reserve driver for the weekend?
This is a sad track to miss out on for the French man as he saw his first (and currently only) win two years ago after being demoted from the Red Bull team back to AlphaTauri.
In other news, Ferrari announced yesterday that they’d be driving in a special one off livery for their home Grand Prix this weekend where their car flashes some extra yellow!
As you can see, very yellow. And there have been photos of their drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz posing in yellow T-shirts to match!
The only other rumours spreading around are that Pierre is most likely heading to Alpine next year if the FIA give permission to American Indycar driver Colten Herta to race in Formula 1 next year. Colten currently only has 32 Super License points and 40 points are the current requirements set by the FIA. There is however a very strong chance that Colten is given special permission to race due to a fundamental flaw in the current Super License points system. More on that later…
Update: Breaking news! Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully in her sleep this afternoon. We’re sure the 3 British drivers Lewis Hamilton, George Russel and Lando Norris (along with the rest of the world) will be in mourning.
Daniel Ricciardo kept the driver’s press conference interesting by rocking up with the face of his McLaren teammate Lando Norris temporarily tattooed to his neck.
Daniel’s future in F1 has continued to be in question by reporters. He stated that he has “nothing to hide” and that we will all know what’s going to happen as soon as he does. He eluded to his focus being on his future in F1 as a whole, not necessarily just for 2023.
Mercedes driver and current 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton was asked about a position opening up for Daniel at Mercedes. Lewis responded with “I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.” before looking over to Daniel to say “Sorry buddy!”. He did clarify that Daniel is too talented and experienced to to take on a reserve driver role and that he should be racing next year.
How will the Australian do this weekend at Monza considering he got his first and only win at McLaren last year? Only time will tell…
