My Internship Story at f1Studioz

It was the casual after-exam relaxation time, when we were notified about an on-campus Internship drive by some reputed Start-Up companies. In the pre-test talk by the Co-Founder, we could sense the reliability and the scale at which the organization worked and how ambitious they were about their work and future.

f1Studioz — Simplicity, Empathy, Agility ”, is our mantra, he said.

When the results were read out, I was more than delighted to find my name in the list.

Being selected as an intern with an organization like f1Studioz was unexpected for me and I was eagerly looking forward to working with the team.

The day arrived, I arrived at the address mentioned to find a cozy workplace tucked away from the traffic of the city and yet located in the very heart of the IT Hub, Gachibowli.

Welcomed by all employees with a warm smile and supporting gestures, we(me and my co-intern) were more than happy and awaiting a great learning experience. We were assigned to a mentor who was very helpful throughout the internship duration.

In addition to the invaluable domain specific skill addition, we also got better at formal communication as we interacted with various employees of various domains in order to complete the work assigned to us efficiently. During this internship, we got to know how a product requested by a client with very less or no technical knowledge can be understood and groomed to a level of perfection, that the client is able to understand that it stands out. We got to know the hours and efforts that are needed for a pixel-perfect experience on any electronic device and how crucial it is, for the clients, stakeholders and as an Enterprise UX Firm, the organization.

We got to know how the terms “Simplicity, Empathy and Agility” were not just the tag line for the firm, but literally the principles which they followed while solving a client’s problem.

What really helped was the great ambience of the workplace and how every employee was enthusiastic and determined about the work they did. It was more than just a job for them, it was their passion. Every employee here, tried constantly and tirelessly towards the betterment of the organization as well as themselves.

In the very first week, I had started to feel better about my coding skills than before. Now, that I was receiving help and support from all ends, I made best use of the time given to me and did my best in each and every task provided to me. Slowly, we got to CSS from HTML and went on to learn the latest versions and worked on real-time assignments provided to us by our mentor.

By the end of first two weeks, we were able to build almost anything we saw that was built with HTML and CSS. Just as we were beginning to think like this, we started integrating it with JavaScript. Once, we started working with JavaScript, we were given a lot of useful resources by our mentor and other employees alike. We were getting loads of suggestions which made our work near perfection.

The designing team, helped us in every way by letting us know about the errors in our presentation and how simple effects and care while coding can result in completely different versions of the same web experience.

They taught us, how important and inter-related UI and UX were, in real-time applications.

The best thing was, the stress-free environment we had over here which enabled us to work freely and at the same time, take work seriously and get things done on time.

There was a lot of self-learning as well as we were given proper training both in online as well as offline modes by our mentors, we were given access to tools like Zeplin and Bitbucket to get to know about their working. As we became proficient in JavaScript, we were in to fall in love with yet another lovely framework of JavaScript — JQuery. We quickly learnt all the JQuery terms and started building some small interfaces using JQuery. In the meantime, we were also being trained and taught to use GITHUB and BITBUCKET to integrate code by multiple developers at the same time. We were uploading all the code into Git and Bitbucket.

After we were done and dusted with JQuery UI, we moved on to design a website.

We were assigned to an experienced designer, who would review our work and monitor our day to day progress as well as make us aware of the best practices of the field.

Once, we started working on bringing a design to life through code, we realized how each and every small detail we spent time on previously, was helping us out in building a complex website. Here too, we were receiving a lot of help from all other employees. Sometimes, the work went melodiously as we would turn on some music while at work.

While working on a replica of this website called Workden, we really got the opportunity to understand the stages of building a real-time website.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Santosh and Dhayan for the idea and implementation of a pure UX based organization. I thank Satish for being an awesome Human Resource Manager and ensuring we were comfortable here. I thank Vipin, Kiran, Ranga, Kiran T for taking time out of their busy schedules and put up with our silly issues with code.

I thank Prashanth, Rafi and Rajan for making designs so perfect, I realized that I need to learn a lot of coding to meet their standards.

I thank Sridhar for all the tasty snacks he brought. All in all, it was the best internship a student could ask for -no exaggeration.

I basically thank the whole f1Family for giving me this wonderful opportunity to work at what can be called — One of the best workplaces.
