As lockdown restrictions slowly begin to loosen across Ontario and other provinces, it’s only a matter of time before restrictions are fully lifted for beauty stylists and professionals.

To help, we’ve put together a list of guidelines for the safe resumption of your hair or makeup gig. When local or provincial authorities have given permission to resume services, these guidelines will show you how to do so safely. Here’s Ontario’s framework for reopening the province for reference.

Soaps, disinfectants, gloves, and masks will be a crucial part of your plan to resume your gig
  1. Establish sanitation protocols: Ensure that you have a supply of cleaning and disinfecting equipment available before starting to accept clients. Follow these sanitation protocols before and after every appointment: wash hands, use sanitizer on hands, wear gloves, use disinfectant on equipment, use disposable combs and makeup brushes. Consider disposable aprons for an extra layer of protection.
  2. Make protocols visible: The next step will be to make your sanitation protocols visible to your client. You can print this out and display in a visible area, or email them directly with your checklist before scheduled appointments.
  3. Consider liability: Consult with insurance regarding COVID-19 liability as it concerns your gig and clients.
  4. Set up a cashless payment structure: Finally, set up a cashless payment structure to minimize contact with paper bills, and ensure your bookings and appointments are safe and seamless for clients. For stylists booking through Fabbulist, payments are powered by Stripe. Get paid without hassle, Stripe powers world-class businesses like Lyft and Doordash.

Remember, it’s also important to follow local, provincial, and national guidelines. Always keep yourself informed on the latest rules, guidelines, and policies as things evolve.
