Listening to the Body Supports True Wellbeing

Wisdom is often associated with the mind. It has even been said that our wellbeing is achieved by maintaining a positive outlook with our mind. But what if true wellbeing is instead realised by listening to the inner wisdom of our bodies?

Our body just tells it as it is, such as when:

  • We’ve been staying up too late by feeling tired
  • We’ve not allowed enough time to get ready by feeling rushed and anxious
  • We’ve been withholding our love and appreciation for our loved ones by feeling guarded and withdrawn
  • We’ve been self-critical by feeling sad and lacking confidence
  • We’ve not been living our full potential by feeling jealous
  • We’ve been sacrificing too much by feeling resentful
  • We’ve been making unloving choices with food by feeling:
  • congested and sniffly
  • racy and anxious
  • headachy
  • lethargic and dull

The body simply feels and reflects to us how we can make more loving choices next time.

What’s more is that all of the above choices result in us making more of these unloving choices. For example, because we are feeling bloated, tired, anxious and withdrawn, we make choices to ‘feel better’ short-term (often with the complicit justification of our minds), rather than to ‘be truly loving to our bodies’ long-term.

On the flip side, our body tells us when:

  • We’ve been getting enough sleep by feeling refreshed and alert
  • We’ve been allowing enough space to get ready for work by feeling calm and prepared
  • We’ve been expressing our love and appreciation for our loved ones by feeling connected
  • We’ve been self loving by feeling expanded and confident
  • We’ve been living our potential by feeling a sense of purpose
  • We’ve been taking care of ourselves first by feeling loved
  • We’ve been making loving choices with food by feeling energised and nourished

Through allowing our body to experience and appreciate qualities such as these (alert, calm, prepared, connected, expanded, confident, purposeful, loved, energised and nourished), we develop a stronger relationship with true wellbeing.
