Celebrating the Love of Design
Inspired by February’s overarching theme of love, as well as Margaret Gould Stewart’s heartwarming piece, What My Grandfather’s Drill Can Teach Us About Designing Business Software, we wanted to take a minute to celebrate the passion that serves as our community’s common thread: the love of design.
We asked our business-tool-loving content strategists here at Facebook about “love at first sight” experiences related to their work in enterprise design.
Check out some of our favorite responses below.

When I start creating video announcements and tutorials at my last company, I was delighted to see that the reporting interface for Wistia, our hosting service, explained each stat in sentence form and showed the math behind each calculation. I’m a words person, so having a written narrative alongside the graphs for things like video completion and drop-offs made it easy for me to get a sense of how I was doing. Wistia took time to design for people who process information differently, and I often pull inspiration from them when I work on tools for advertisers.

Between the years of 1999–2001, I never left home without a bike tire patch kit. I should mention that my home was in a tiny village in the Sanmatenga province of Burkina Faso, West Africa. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer and my bike was the only way I could get around. The coarse dirt roads of the Sahel region of Africa are littered with sharp thorns from acacia trees, but whenever one caused a flat, a simple patch kit — made up of a bit of sandpaper, a tiny tube of rubber cement, and (of course) tire patches — helped me get rolling again. Weighing only a few ounces, cheap by any standard, and always available in even the most remote village market, the humble patch kit inspired my love for tools that are simple, accessible, and effective.

I can’t go for more than a few days without returning to the Amber Interiors site. I love Amber’s passion for design and the way she combines structure, texture, and color. Her style captures the essence of Los Angeles but is peppered with pieces from other cultures and echoes of previous decades. As a content strategist, I create simple beauty and meaning with words and design. Amber works in a different medium, but she’s doing the same thing with interiors, and doing it in such a fresh, compelling, inviting way. It’s so inspiring! My fantasy is to work with her someday.
We hope you, too, find reminders of your love for design in all aspects of your life. Any moments of design-inspired love you’d like to share with us? Drop them in the comments below!
