We’re excited to start a Medium channel that covers some of our top learnings from building a world-class Design Program Management team at Facebook.

The idea stems from our work on Elegant Tools and Facebook Design, where we frequently post about how things work behind the scenes at Facebook. The Design Operations space is booming, so starting a place where we can geek out on all things related to the discipline makes sense.

We’re so proud to be part of this growing tribe of DPMs, and we intend to use this space to highlight the work and impact that DPMs contribute to design teams both at Facebook and beyond our walls.

Check out a few of our posts about the world of DPMs here:

More Design Problems, More Designers (and More Need for Design Ops)
Since Facebook’s Design Program Management team began in 2013, we’ve helped product designers, researchers, and content strategists focus on what they’re best at and enjoy doing — creating smart, engaging product solutions for our 2.2 billion monthly active users and 6 million advertisers all over the world.

4 Traits Shared By the Best Design Program Managers
As the world of Design Program Management grows, we can begin to identify several characteristics common to the best DPMs in the industry.

What’s a Design Program Manager and How Can My Team Get One? You’ll know when it’s time to bring on your first Design Program Manager because beyond just noticing that there are process and prioritization gaps that aren’t being addressed, you’ll realize that such gaps are too large for any one designer to take on outside their day-to-day duties.

Explaining and Socializing the Role of the DPM
Define the “magic dust” of DPMs to key stakeholders and higher-ups quarterly, every six months, and again annually.
