The Tech Demystify initiative from Facebook Developer Circles Accra(DevCAccra) is to encourage community members to share their knowledge with the community at large. We believe everyone has varying levels of expertise across different areas henceforth, we are welcoming every member to share their knowledge on tools, techniques, resources, etc. Every week, we host one member.

The first edition in the series of conversations aimed at bridging the knowledge and skills gap in the Ghanaian technology ecosystem and also a platform for sharing lessons learned in the industry with others got underway with its first guest, Mike Perry Attara, a basic school teacher turned software developer and has become a rising talent in the local tech scene.

He had a few nuggets to share in the space of 30 minutes that the virtual forum lasted. The panel which happened in the form of a question and answer was hosted by Oliver Mensah with Mike Perry Attara as a guest.
Mike shared the following lessons from his experience in the tech local ecosystem that has helped his growth so far:

SHARE YOUR KNOWLEDGE ( WHAT YOU LEARN); he said knowledge sharing of one’s experiences in the tech space is one sure way of growth especially in the advent of social networking where most techies create handles to communicate with each other we can also use such internet forums to exchange information; it could be a line of code which we may find difficult to understand but through reaching out to the community online, help could come from a member who might have encountered a similar challenge and figured it out. He says we should use Twitter because techies/developers are mostly active on that social network than any other platform. He also underscored the importance of writing articles about what we have learned along the way or perhaps start a YouTube channel.

JOIN TECH COMMUNITIES; There have been ongoing efforts to revive tech communities in Ghana with the strong emergence of DevCAccra, Developers in Vogue, and PyLadies Ghana to complement the efforts by existing communities such Google Developers Group Accra, DevCongress and WomenTechMakers to mention few. Mike said he found a home when he joined the community as DevCAccra which has helped him learn new things and engaged in community activities, most of all learn from the experts.

HELP OTHERS; Share your thoughts on people’s posts, contribute to open source projects. Help others find solutions to their work. Make yourself discoverable.
