The Arches National Park let Germans believe Winnetou and Old Shatterhand are heading around the corner. The scenery reminds me of this very famous German movie titled “Winnetou “.

It is a romantic story about Indians and Cowboys that has nothing to do with the merciless, brutal story of pioneers getting settled.

Deep in my heart I had hoped that it is as beautiful as the inspiring photos I had seen before.

And, yes it is awesome and stunning. What nature. The child in me imagines Indians, pioneers, prairie schooners and campfires.

I just can’t get enough from this red coloured sandstone colossuses, which are rising out of nowhere and are forming impressive rock skylines.

They remember at a giant Park Avenue protected by a rock shelter that looks like Nofretete. And ooooh those giant rock arches gaining huge space in sandstone formations, some with openings of 50 to 70 feet and larger. You can see them already from far away.

Delicate Arch is one of the most exciting ones. After 3 miles strenuous hike, following a very narrow path on the top of the mountain, you’ ll discover this beauty. He pops up wholly unexpected in a magnificent setting atop gracefully curving slick rock. It is worth the effort.

The Delicate Arch is so famous because it is the only freestanding one of that size in the world. In Utah, this arche is “the symbol”. You can find him regularly on the Utah car plates.

Equally impressive but easier accessible are the Arches of the Windows Section. You can reach them via the scenic drive that leads across the park.

There is so many impressive nature to see There is nothing better than to discover these hidden treasures on your own. Most of them are not obvious from the beginning on.

Although you are surrounded by stunning nature when you already drive through the park, the most of the real “wows” you’ll discover by hiking the trails.

This is for what the Arches National Park is famous for. They count more than 2000 Arches, small and big ones. When you go end of April and beginning of October, you’ll find best weather conditions and fewer visitors.
