Faces of BlueLight: Keeping Families Connected

While BlueLight is a source of reassurance and backup for people who live independently, it’s also a way for families to stay connected. Family members are always looking out for one another’s safety, and BlueLight offers an easy, reassuring way to keep each other in the loop when everyday activities take them in different directions.

We’re very excited to share our next Faces of BlueLight story from Michael. Michael is not only a family man, but also holds professional experience in the safety field, as a paramedic and firefighter for nearly 10 years. He uses BlueLight to stay in touch with his family while commuting, but he also gives our emergency capabilities a vote of confidence. We’ll let him take it from here.

My wife and I first saw BlueLight on TV. Since we both have iPhones and do a ton of commuting for school, work, and family vacations with our children, we decided to give the app a try. After we tested it during a road trip to Grandma and Grandpa’s house in the Atlanta area, we were sold.
I was active duty military until this past summer when I began medical school in the Auburn, AL, area. Unfortunately, my wife and children still reside about two hours away from my school. While the commute isn’t too bad (about 100 miles), I do end up taking numerous backroads, sometimes in the middle of the night. With BlueLight and it’s “On My Way” feature, I feel a bit better traveling by myself.
Before I leave campus, I activate the “On My Way” feature so that my wife knows I am on the road and when to expect me home. Since I take the same route home every time, my wife would be able to easily locate me if something were to go wrong. Even though my truck is equipped with OnStar and we subscribe to the service, I appreciate having the ability to make a BlueLight E-911 call in case the OnStar service fails.
I’ve been a paramedic and firefighter for nearly ten years. I recommend this app to both students and families because it can allow 911 dispatchers to locate you in an emergency. It also gives some peace of mind to your family when you are traveling, regardless of distance. I’ve responded to numerous 911 calls where the dispatcher was unable to ascertain the exact location of the call because the caller was not familiar with their surrounds/environment. E-911 can help cut down on response times when you need help. The BlueLight app makes it possible.
