The Back Burner of a Heart

I was the temporary wave,

in many hearts that I’ve come across.

Waves turn to mist given enough time,

I look at my hands and nothing was ever lost.

It took some time for love to wear off.

She stood where she wanted to rest.

I waited in the corner of her stairway.

Was she home? Or was it a secret at best?

Innocent as the thunder clouds,

we dance in a face-off with each other.

One drop at a time, we empty our hearts.

No damage was too small, yet we moved further.

We move farther away the more we talk.

When we’re near, the lights flash all around.

We listen to the music at the open mics,

and forget love when we stand our grounds.

It’s the animosity lurking every day,

Her plan is to conquer the empty cities.

She sees gold where there’s brass,

Without me, her friend, she knows scarcity.

What sorcery is this life from one’s eyes?

What songs of melancholy do we hear?

I get back on my feet to run and forget.

She lies in gentle whispers to her own ears.
