Now’s your chance to let Congress know you’re passionate about CARA!

Both the Senate and House have passed versions of the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act. Conferees from both bodies are currently meeting in what’s known as “conference” to finalize one bill that will go to the President’s desk for signature and passage into law.

It’s critically important that the conferees hear from you as soon as possible! These policy leaders must understand how important a comprehensive addiction response is in their home state.

“3/25/1999: 1 p.m. Thursday. We got ‘The Knock’ that no parent wants, to identify a body at the hospital believed to be our 19-year old daughter. An overdose on heroin and cocaine ended her life and changed the lives of many who knew her.

We were stunned as we had no idea she was even using drugs. There were signs and symptoms but we didn’t recognize them. We were at our wits end and there was no place to go for help so we started a support group (Wits End) for families of addiction. It provides education and support in a free, open and confidential format with a trained addiction counselor present. Our goal is that no other parent gets that ‘Knock’ again. Funding is needed for this life-saving program.”
