Take Action on CARA
The Comprehensive Addiction & Recovery Act (CARA) is a historic piece of legislation aimed at combating the addiction crisis in America.
Last month The House of Representatives passed a package of 18 bills related to addiction issues! Of course this didn’t just happen…you told your stories.
Last week, the U.S. Senate officially voted to send the Comprehensive Addiction & Recovery Act (CARA) into what is called a Conference Committee, and has appointed members to that committee. These Senators will join previously appointed members of the House of Representatives in hashing out their differences over CARA.
Our elected leaders need to hear from people in their own districts and states.
Never before have substance use disorders hit so many families, regardless of their race, their income status, their geographic location or political ideology. Simply put, addiction does not discriminate. Your elected officials, and in particular the members of the Conference Committee, need to hear your stories.
We’ve created posts for key states that tell your stories and details on who you can tweet at in that state to make a difference.
Here’s how you can help!
Below you’ll find a list of some of the top conferees on both sides of the aisle who will join the Conference Committee. Tweet at them and share your story or link to one of the stories we already posted.

Our journey began last year when tens of thousands of people and more than 700 organizations came together to UNITE To Face Addiction on October 4th. Momentum continued on October 5th when over 400 people from 48 states ventured to Capitol Hill to demand action from their members of Congress. This was the largest Hill Day ever assembled in Washington of people impacted by addiction and recovery! This combined effort propelled a number of draft bills into committee and onto the respective chamber floors for passage.
