Response To ‘Writer’s Block Fixes’
My thoughts on an article on writer’s block
I was reading an article and thought I would look at my own issues in comparison. This is my first article I am writing for my Publication ‘Fact Checked’.
In the article I viewed, ‘These 3 Unique Writer’s Block Fixes Take Just 5 Minutes to Implement’ written by Zulie Rane, she looks at ‘High Expectations’, ‘No time or energy’, and ‘Nobody respects your writing time — least of all you’, as being three writer’s block obstacles which she seeks ways to overcome.
I found Zulie’s YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago. I find her advice very helpful in learning to navigate the Medium platform.
Pulling my thoughts together
For me, writing is becoming a way to try to get my thoughts together. I have gotten my life into quite a mess over the years. Sometimes I find that when I talk about issues, I seem to resolve them. Sort of like thinking out loud.
I am not sure which genre I want to start approaching. I am interested in topics involving marketing, content creation, etc.. However, I spent ten years in academics, coming into it at the age of forty.
I came up with many content creations while pursuing my juris doctorate. But then we all know the obstacles everyone has been facing for almost the past three years.
What is that saying, life is what happens when you are busy making other plans? I think that is how it is said. Well, here I am starting over again.
Finding out what my interests are
I find myself searching for topics which interest me. I guess I am looking for the answer to where people tell me to ‘get a life’.
I remember back to when I was at the height of my career working for a logistics company. I had purchased a brand new 2006 Harley Davidson 883 low rider Sportster for my ex wife.
Then we found out we were having a child. I started riding what I had purchased for her as a ‘girl’s bike’. I knew my freight business was drying up. I was trying in vain to replace my lost income.
This was back in the 2007 era, just going into the 2008 economic recession. I found myself riding a motorcycle from Southeast Georgia, down to Daytona Beach Florida, and then all over Jacksonville Florida.
I was trying to promote a local biker magazine. And oh the troubles I found myself getting into with that idea!
In the end, I gave up on that and ended up even more lost. My six figure income had literally vanished over night in early January 2008. I lost everything. I guess it has been fourteen years ago now.
I ended up working in medical laboratories for the past nine years. This past year I spent as a traveling medical laboratory technician. I have yet to go and sit for the bar after being awarded my juris doctorate back in 2020.
I also spent the past year building out some websites to try to pull together five years of content creation into anything marketable. I suppose I am still working on that.
But, finding Medium has given me a stronger focus this past week. I just wanted to say thank you to Zulie for having such interesting content.
