Talent Reviews at Amazon: Tips for Individual Contributors

1. Set goals: start with the end in mind, work backwards from the customer impact you’re aiming for — that you want your leadership team to discuss in the Talent Review.

2. Be bold: share goals with your manager and their peers. Be open to input and support, keep them regularly updated with your progress, and celebrate each milestone.

3. Use Leadership Principles: it’s about the How as much as the What. Be sure to earn trust with stakeholders, keep moving forward (simplify and escalate past obstacles), and focus on the customer.

4. Scale it: share learnings across Amazon for other teams to benefit, look beyond your goal at how much bigger it could be in the future, and share your vision with leadership.
