The Purpose

Factual Opinions is the tongue in cheek name for a publication where I intend to write about several topics, without any particular central theme, just whatever I (or perhaps a contributor) feel like writing about, as long as it is interesting to read.

I believe that writers who have an opinion, or take a stance on a topic are generally more entertaining to read, and if that writer takes the time to research his arguments so it doesn’t only reflect his or her personal experience, there is always a big scope to learn something new and potentially change someone else’s life — if only by a tiny bit.

Facts and opinions are both rather elusive, let’s take for example a human being, what’s a human being? You could say that a human being is mostly what you find in any butcher’s shop; a bunch of meat and bones, which is the truth, no one can argue with that.

On the other hand you could say that a human being is the pinnacle of evolution; a sentient being searching for meaning who has the potential to achieve great things and shape the world into a better place.

That last paragraph may, or may not be factual for all, but can you say with all assurance that there are no human beings that fit at least two parts of that description?

Whatever opinion or view you take will shape your life, the optimist may get out of the house thinking that there are great people that would be very happy to meet her and cherish her friendship while the pessimist may feel that no one likes him, that most people would care very little whether he lives or dies.

In this particular example it doesn’t matter what opinion is more truthful, what matters is that both opinions are to a certain extent a fact, however one of them will bring joy while the other bring misery and whatever your opinion and belief is will certainly define how you behave in life.
