FaeFolk is a 2D pixel styled PvP and PvE fantasy RPG. In its current iteration, FaeFolk allows users to farm, craft and build in a multiplayer, procedurally generated, persistent world. Built on the IC, FaeFolk will provide users with unique experiences of ownership, community and creative influence over the FaeFolk world.

It is important to note, we are not like other games in the blockchain ecosystem. We are not a play to earn, play and earn, or mechanism to extract value; this game is actually fun. You play FaeFolk to get lost in the world, not to earn worthless tokens. There are NFT components and trading mechanics within our marketplace a good player can utilize, but the gameplay itself is the entire focus of this article. We will release information regarding NFT integrations at a later date.

As seen in the video, the player can collect resources and use those resources to craft various items. All the while, they are desperately trying to avoid or fight the dangers within the world. Bears and wolves at every corner will stop at nothing to rid you from their world.

Will you be able to fight the dangers, explore the world, and build something special?

Combat

You’ll start off with nothing but bare fists to defend yourself. Break down a few trees, and you can craft your first axe to speed up the process. Once you build a workbench, you can utilize ores to strengthen your tools. Eventually, you will be crafting powerful weapons and tools to defend against enemies. See the Resource section to fully understand the resource progression.

Swords

  • Sword swing — a fast sword swipe
  • Sword defense — protects against incoming projectiles
  • Enchantment — poison, ice, or fire sword attacks

Various swords can be crafted with wood, stone, iron, bronze, and gold. See Resource section for more info.

Bows

  • Single shot — shoots one arrow
  • Multi-shot — shoots numerous arrows at once
  • Enchantment — poison, ice, or fire arrows
  • Ricochet shot — arrow bounces between nearby enemies

A player crafts a bow with wood and rope. Wood is collected from trees, and rope is crafted by killing spiders in the caves and collecting their silk.

Staffs

6 Staffs: Dark Magic, Earth, Fire, Ice, Lighting, Wind
Ice Staff

Each staff comes with 4 ways to use them. Here is a brief breakdown (these are subject to changes and improvements):

  • 💨The Wind Staff allows the player to shoot a piercing tornado, dash through the wind, launch a tornado that traps enemies within range, and create a powerful whirlwind.
        — This Staff is unlocked by defeating the Wind Boss
  • 🔥The Fire Staff allows the player to shoot a single fireball, turn into a deadly ball of fire, shoot exploding fireballs, and operate a powerful flamethrower.

          — This Staff is unlocked by defeating the Fire Boss

  • ⚡️The Lightning Staff allows the player to shoot a chain of electricity, flash-step, shoot a chain of electricity that stuns nearby enemies, and lightning strike the map.
  • 🌍The Earth Staff allows the player to summon thorns through the ground, turn into an Earth Golem, shoot a persistent line of thorns at your enemy, and generate a powerful earthquake.
  • ❄️The Ice Staff allows the player to shoot an icy projectile, use an ice shield, shoot an icy projectile that freezes their enemies, and create a powerful blizzard.
  • 🔮The Dark Magic staff allows the player to summon a Demon Warrior, summon a Demon Mage, become invisible, and generate portals that suck enemies in.

The combos you utilize can create a unique combat experience. Personally, I chose the Dark Magic staff to become invisible with a spell, and I utilize another to summon demons to fight for me. Other players may prefer to shoot fireballs from the Fire Staff, while quickly switching to Dark Magic to become invisible and move positions. The possibilities are endless. Stay tuned for detailed video gameplay of each powerful Staff.

For each weapon, the first skill is unlocked by default, but additional XP must be earned to use all skills

Resources

Each resource below can be found with different levels of difficulty in the FaeFolk world. The default wall and floor type is twig (5 wood), which is not a resource. The hammer (10 wood + 10 stone) is used to upgrade tiers when building.

Walls left to right: twig, wood, stone, bronze, iron

Breaking trees: fist (5 wood), wood axe(10 wood), stone axe(15 wood), bronze axe(20 wood), iron axe (25 wood), and gold axe (30 wood)

Breaking ore: wood pickaxe (5 ore), stone pickaxe (10 ore), bronze pickaxe (15 ore), iron pickaxe (20 ore), and gold pickaxe (25 ore)

Ore refers to stone, bronze, iron, and gold, meaning a wood pickaxe will return 5 stone/bronze/iron/gold, a stone pickaxe will return 10 stone/bronze/iron/gold, and so on as described above.

Horizontal Progression

Horizontal Progression is an important part of FaeFolk and gives players many ways to enjoy the game.

Harvesting and utilizing crops is an important mechanism within the FaeFolk world.

  1. The player tills his soil
  2. The player can then plants seeds
  3. The player makes sure to water his crops
  4. The player then harvests his wheat

5. The player uses the Grain Mill to create wheat flour

6. Wheat flour can then be used in the Furnace to make bread!

Horizontal progression is utilized in many aspects of the FaeFolk world. The above is simply an example of this progression.

Stats

  • Energy 🟩
    - Energy is used when performing non-magic actions such as sprinting, tool swings and fishing
    - During sprinting, if no energy remains, you will begin to lose health
    - Kill animals to utilize their food, either raw or cooked, to heal yourself
  • Mana 🟦
    - Mana is used when casting spells
    - Mana gradually restores over time or by using potions
  • Health 🟥
    - Health is deducted when hit by animals or mobs in the dungeons
    - When health is depleted, you will drop inventory and respawn at the last known respawn location
    - Kill animals to utilize their food, either raw or cooked, to heal yourself

Everything above is subject to improvement and change. The exact amount of mana when using spells, resources it takes to build, damage weapons do, resources it takes to upgrade, and more will be constantly adjusted to balance the game as our user base grows. This will be done to properly balance the game between difficulty and fun.
