Julia Dressel is a current software engineer at Recidiviz, a technical nonprofit organization that provides tools and infrastructure to improve the criminal justice system. She previously has worked for Apple and graduated from Dartmouth with a B.A. in Computer Science and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies. During her undergraduate, she published a viral research paper exposing the limitations of COMPAS, a commercial risk assessment software widely used in the criminal justice system. Julia is passionate about the ethics of algorithmic governance, intuitive and accessible design, and criminal justice reform.
