Today is Five Minute Friday. It’s been a strange day. I started to work on this post and the power went off — for over 4 hours. Took the time to sit outside and read for awhile. Then, as I have a cell phone and data I connected into a retreat I am part of. Because the speaker had no sound she was late. Just as she started again, the power came on. I could now listen by WiFi.

What a delight to be a part of Deanne Michelle Welsh’s group. She inspires and encourages. Check out Unstoppable Writers on Facebook. It’s better than a vacation. You will come away inspired.

The word for Five Minute Friday this week is “vacation”. We take 5 minutes and just write on a word prompt.

Since retiring I think my whole life is a vacation.

Except we don’t travel as much. We are home bodies. We love to go for walks, have our family visit, read, play cards and relax with each other. My hubby loves to play cribbage so we do that almost every night. He also likes euchre. I like one or two games but I can’t play for a couple of hours.

We are blessed to head south to Arizona during the cold winter months. But once we are there — we stay where we are. We do the same things that we do up north but don’t see the family as much.

Lots of colour in Arizona and blue skies

But my days are also filled with writing and connecting on line through my FB group Artists and Writers Grow Through God’s Word. I can do all this because I go to God in prayer. First thing in the morning and throughout the day.

I thought of God and how He never takes a vacation.

He is always on call, day and night, for any of our concerns. It doesn’t matter how small, God wants to connect with you. For that reason we can rely on His strength at any time and it never runs out.

“But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31, NIV).”

I think about those saints who have gone before us; especially I think of Apostle Paul who never rested once God got a hold of Him. I think His vacation was taken when He went to God in prayer.

And that’s a type of vacation, isn’t it? Being refreshed through prayer.

Jesus also had a vacation from life’s pursuits. He went away to pray.

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed (Luke 5:16, NIV).”

We give all our concerns to God so we don’t have that burden anymore.

vacation: a break, a time off, a sabbatical

We need to spend time with God in His Word and in prayer so we can be refreshed to continue along the path that He has set before us.

That’s it for today. Very short.

Take your vacation today — book it with God. Learn peace, patience and joy.
