A Journey through Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson

Day Four

I started to study the book Draw the Circle by Mark Batterson 3 days ago. You can read my beginning post at How to Find Out About Prayer. In today’s post I write what I discovered through my reading and have given some quotes at the bottom of the post. This is my discovery post with what I have learned mixed with my own thoughts.

Praying Through Our Circumstances

John 9:3

Jesus said, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. The Message

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.

I love the version of this scripture in The Message.

There is no cause-effect here.

Purpose of Prayer:

  1. to get us out of circumstances
  2. to get us through our circumstances

Deliverance prayers — healing, spiritual warfare, setting free, breaking chains

Prevailing Prayers — grace to sustain, strength to stand firm, willpower to keep on keeping on

Sometimes we are so fixated to get OUT OF A SITUATION we try to pray the situation away.

But God can change us in our circumstances. Sometimes we need to pray those prevailing prayers. We need discernment of when and what to pray for.

Ask yourself a question: Do I pray for my comfort or God’s glory?

Remember that sometimes God’s answer is no.

We need to praise God in the NO answers as well as in the YES answers.

The best answer is always what brings God the most glory! (Mark Batterson)

The primary purpose of prayer is not to change circumstances; the primary purpose of prayer is to change us! (Mark Batterson)

Sometimes God delivers us from our problems; sometimes God delivers us through our problems. (Mark Batterson) (click to tweet this)

A few more of my thoughts:

Prevailing through circumstances with praise to God can only happen supernaturally.

Groups need people with all spiritual gifts to discern God’s path.

Through all circumstances I know You, LORD, are in charge. (click to tweet this)

I journal every morning, both in a written journal and in my Bible journal. Here is sample from today’s Bible journal.

I’m researching prevailing scripture prayers so I can draw a circle around my circumstances with those scriptural prayers.

Can you help me find some scriptures for prevailing prayer?

Join me on my Private Facebook Page called Growing Through God’s Word where I look at different verses in the Bible — journal, and draw what I learn. Just ask to join.

Prayer:

Father, thank you for being with us in all circumstances. Help me to learn to praise you at all times. Help me learn more about prevailing prayers. In Jesus’ name. Amen
