Do not forget the guardian angel who is always with you and never leaves you, no matter what wrong thing you might do. — St. Padre Pio

People who are familiar with angels tend to cite the Big Three: Michael, Gabriel and Raphael.

All three of these archangels play prominent roles in God’s plans for Creation. They tend to show up with assignments that portend significant moments in your life.

Or in the History of Humanity.

Maybe there is a major battle to be fought (Michael)

Maybe a dire message needs to be communicated (Gabriel)

Maybe a great journey will be undertaken (Raphael).

But what about our everyday lives? The minutiae of our days that seems to have very little import?

Actually, it does.

It’s in the details of your life where God is found, whispering to you, trying to get your attention.

To help you with your daily lives, God has assigned you (and everyone) a guardian angel. Guardian angels are emissaries for God who work directly for the Archangels. They are on the front lines of your life, and they are pleading for you to consult them, call upon them.

Your guardian angel is yours and yours alone, and he (or she) is available to you in ALL matters.

Why would you ignore this important resource when tackling the events of your life great and small? You shouldn’t. And, now that you know you have a guardian angel who walks with you, you’re going to make use of him, right?

But how? Here are seven steps to get your guardian angel off the bench and into your life.

1) Have faith.

As the headline states: you — yes, you — have a guardian angel. But you must open your heart to this possibility in order to make use of him.

Asking for his assistance while doubting his existence is an impotent cycle of frustration. It will lead you nowhere.

So, first things first.

You must believe.

2) Ask for your angel’s name.

You knew your angel before you arrived here in the material world. You were paired by God Himself. You were supposed to navigate this world with your angel at your side.

Before you got here, you and your angel agreed upon a name for him. It could be something common (Steve. Christine) or something silly, or distinctive.

You’re earth bound amnesia cleared his name from your consciousness. You can learn it from him, but you have to ask for it and listen intently.

He will find a way to get you his name.

3) Open your day with your angel.

When you wake up in the morning and the anxieties flood into the open spaces left by receding sleep, call in your angel.

Ask him for comfort and peace.

Ask him for his help in the day to come.

Be open to his presence.

4) Close your day with your angel.

When you drift off to sleep, your senses go dark which provides the optimum condition for God and His angels to work on you.

Ask your angel for guidance, wisdom and protection through the night. Say the angel prayer:

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day(night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide,

Amen.

5) Take a walk with your angel.

Schedule some alone time when you’re going to take a stroll and get some air, even if its only ten minutes. That’s a great time to unburden yourself of the anxieties, worries and concerns of your day.

Speak to him casually, as if speaking to a friend.

Listen for his counsel (in your heart).

Ask for his help.

If you’re having a problem with a particular person, ask your angel to speak with that person’s angel to facilitate a peaceful resolution.

Yes. It works.

6) Silence.

This is where God and His angels speak to us.

Cut through the noise, the useless chatter and ridiculous eye distractions provided by television and social media, and allow silence to befall you.

Sometimes immersing yourself in a natural environment helps.

Or being silent during certain daily, natural events (dawn, dusk) can heighten your soul’s antenna and make contact with your angel easier and more fruitful.

7) Talk to God.

When in doubt, talk to the Big Guy. Ask Him to help you connect to your angel, remind you to reach out to your angel every day. Thank Him for your angel. Show your gratitude by forging a relationship with your angel.

Never travel faster than your guardian angel can fly. — St. Mother Teresa

Yes, guardian angels are real and they are just waiting to help us. They are our eternal companions and they have our backs. Get to know your angel. Make him/her a part of your life.
