God Loves You Just the Way You Are

True, but…

God loves you. Indeed, God loves you just the way you are. God wants everyone at His table. God is for everyone. He’s against no one.

It’s only those mean people who have misunderstood or who distort God’s teachings that are against people. God is for everybody.

That tends to be the mantra — in various forms — that comes out of many Christian voices here on Medium. It certainly seems to be the underlying philosophy of most progressive Christians. To them, God loves everyone and is for everyone — except perhaps those narrow-minded mean people who are against some people or things. God is against them. But He’s for everyone else.

This is nice and all. I mean, who doesn’t want to live in a world full of unicorns, rainbows, marshmallows, and twinkly stars?

But there’s this thing called Reality.

Rainbows are nice, but we don’t see them every day. Marshmallows are wonderful, but you can’t live off them. (Though it would be nice if we could). And unicorns aren’t real. So…

We have to come to grips with reality.

Either God exists or God does not exist. If God does exist (and I believe this to be the case), then God is NOT a Being of your or my making.
