Was Jesus Against Personal Hygiene?

When it comes to religion and politics, Medium has descended into a cesspool of extremist hate and unhinged bitterness. Hardly any group is attacked more viciously than Christians. If I had a dollar for every anti-Christian hit piece on this platform, I’d be a rich man.

One of the most recent anti-Christian rants is the following…

There are so many problems with this piece that it’s hard to know where to begin. Since I have a life, I don’t have the time to engage every single one of this author’s points. But I want to tackle one — specifically, the ridiculous claim that Jesus of Nazareth didn’t appreciate the value of good hygiene and spoke against handwashing.

This smear on Jesus (and those who follow Him today) is not new. I’ve heard this nonsense before. It is based on a distortion of Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 15.
