You Don’t Like It When Christians Evangelize? Fair. But Let’s Talk About It
Why Most Christians Mean Well — But Not All Do
“Why do I find it so annoying when Christians try to evangelize or tell me they hope I feel the love of Christ?” That was a question posted on Reddit a while ago. The comments are interesting, to say the least. One of them was quite blunt:
It’s arrogant and condescending as hell, that’s why. These kinds of Christians genuinely think they know what’s best for you better than you do. The implied second half of “I hope you feel the love of Christ” is “…because then you would be a Christian like me.” It assumes that the reason you aren’t a Christian is not because of your very real experiences and thoughts, but because of something they understand that you don’t yet understand.”
This commenter summed up much of the antagonism against evangelism and evangelical Christians. Such antagonism can be seen all over Reddit, TikTok, here on Medium — in fact, all over the Internet.
Atheists, agnostics, liberals, “exvangelicals,” and progressives all share one thing in common: They love to criticize and disparage evangelical Christians.
