Gamification System

Some of the gamification types that are often used include: point/score, leaderboard/ranking, badge/achievement, level, reward, progress bar, mission, feedback, storytelling and virtual territories.

We are looking into point and achievement. We are thinking of having 5 different levels (tiers) the user can achieve. The user would start off as tier 5, and according to their engagement, their tier goes up.

We will show the achievement/progress of the level with the bar. We’ve been trying to think of the score system. For example, writing 1 input of the contribution notes of a place worths 5 points, giving 1 appreciation to other’s contribution worths 2 points, and creating 1 itinerary worths 10 points. We are still figuring out the titles for the tiers.

On the right is the sketch of the profile page, which will serve as the dashboard for the status of the gamification aspect. On the screen is displayed the user’s tier, number of engagements, and the neighborhood they belong to.

Visuals

Based on the positive feedback on our visual direction from our classmates during this past week’s peer review session, we went ahead to continue building off of the puzzle piece imagery, with each puzzle piece representing a person.

We also received really great feedback from Kristin when we showed her our progress so far and she suggested that we play around with adding arms/legs in order to further diversify the characters (adding service dogs, walking canes, etc) and allows them to further interact with one another (waving, gesturing, etc). Taking inspiration from the characters from Pentagram’s “Neighorhoods Now”, we iterated on the character designs.
