God, The Rock, and You

Before we start this year of deconstruction, expansion, and a lot of trial and error, I would like to take note of the word God. I will be using the word God a lot in the upcoming months, so I wanted us to get a one thing straight.
God Does Not = A Single Religion.
God Transcends Religon.
If that name makes you run for the exits, then substitute it with Universe, Source, Nature, or whatever phrase you use to define that pulsating power of the universe that is moving us all towards “some-thing.”
Please don’t get too caught up in semantics. That isn’t what we are here for. We are here to grow, to expand, to question, to love, and to be profoundly transformed by that which came before and that which will extend far beyond.
We are talking about what it means to be human.
Not an exclusive force, but a dynamically inclusive force.
Okay, that is the last time (maybe) I’ll talk about that. Now, to the Falling Inward…
Why Won’t My Rock Fall?
Do you ever feel like you have surrendered to a higher power, but nothing seems to be working?
You still don’t have that divine glow? You still feel lost? You still feel like you are searching without direction?
I’m sorry to say it, but the reason this is happening is that haven’t really surrendered.
Maybe you have accepted the reality that you cannot create a great future without the direction of a larger Force with your mind, but you have failed to integrate it at the mystical level in your heart.
However, real transformation can only happen when your mind and heart are completely in alignment.
“Not-thinking” is hard for Westerns to grasp. We love to think and to think that these thoughts are the end all be all. If you think it, it will become your reality. (insert any self-help book here)
But the reality is that you cannot transcend into a new way of living simply at a cognitive level. To paraphrase the ancient Jesus wisdom, you must surrender COMPLETELY to a higher power that is capable of doing immeasurably more than you could ever THINK to be transformed into your true self.
You will not be transformed by meditation if you have an objective for it. Sure you may decrease stress, but that is still a result that you can think of, but imagine an effect that is immeasurably MORE than that.
How much would your life change? I have no idea but either do you and that is the beauty of surrender. Your life will change.
Imagine that God is pushing a rock down a hill. The rock symbolizes the barrier to your transformation, your ego or small self. For you to be transformed, all that needs to happen is for the rock to reach the bottom of the hill.
God is actively trying to push your ego down and allows you to be transformed. However, you stand on the other side of the rock, desperately trying to keep it where it is.
You fear that if you completely let go and accept the vulnerability that you are lost and have no idea what lies ahead, you will die.
And this fear is real. It is the same fear that keeps most people in lives of quiet desperation for something more.
The paradox is that you have to let the rock fall down the hill for you to be the amazing, beautiful person that you truly are. But to do this, you must die to everything you once knew.
This is scary shit.
Of course, it is, you are being transformed into something magnificent, and that process is bound to come with obstacles. But the result will be new life.
So, give it a try for a day, or an hour, or even a minute.
Abandon your certitude of the future. Give up your 5 year plan. Give up your mission.
Surrender and let the rock fall as you slowly lie down in the presence of the Divine.
Are you ready to Fall Inward?
Yes! I couldn’t be happier.
