The Myth of Self-Alignment

How hard do you try to align yourself in such a way that you will be better suited to realize the future you want?
Maybe this manifests in goal setting, reading self-help books, or helping out those in need.
All of these activities are amazing, but they will not bring you the satisfaction you desire.
The person who consistently sets goals, believing that just maybe one of the goals that they set will finally bring them the fulfillment they so desire.
Or the person who devours self-help books, trusting that in one lies the answer to the questions she seeks.
Or even better, or more nuanced, is the sacrificial martyr that is constantly helping others in need as a sort of self-positioning in the spiritual marketplace.
All of these acts are just that…acts.
But the problem is that transformation…real good, juicy, life changing transformation does not happen by you ACTING.
It only happens by BEING.
That is why this blog is called Falling Inward. The notion that there is an opportunity for us to act in a way that will provide ultimate transformation is bogus. Transformation comes from the inside out.
A real awakening does not change what is around you (external), it changes how you perceive (internal) everything around you.
I’m trying to realize this in my own life. I’m stopping my constant need to hedge my belief in the future with a good deed here and a goal setting exercise there, and truly allowing myself to be quiet and listen to that still small voice that is pushing me towards freedom…
If only I would relax and allow it.
