#625 Fed Up Feminist

#625 Fed Up Feminist Dec. 20, 2018

Bill Cosby was an “upstanding citizen”
But he drugged and raped over 60 women
From the 1960’s-2008.
Brock Turner was a star athlete
And a real punishment would “ruin his life”
Aaron Trejo was a “good kid” from a “loving family”
Until he stabbed and strangled his girlfriend Brianna
Because she was pregnant and planned to keep her daughter, Aurora
But it’s not his fault because he might have hit his head once
And besides, she waited too long to tell him about the baby anyway
He just “took action”.
Cosby claimed all his raping and drugging was “consensual”
He cried racism
He said these women were “lying to ruin his career”
That the case was an attempt to “get their 15 minutes of fame”
Turner’s crime was downplayed as “twenty minutes of action” while she was unconscious
Behind a dumpster
As if she were trash
As if she were a conquest.
Harvey Weinstein denied all rape and sexual assault allegations
Despite countless famous faces telling accounts of a similar predatory pattern.
He claimed these women were either lying or disgruntled exes trying to “further their careers”
Women are ALWAYS blamed for the aggression and violence of men
If we’re catcalled we need to “learn to take a compliment”
If we’re asked out, we should say yes
Even if we’re 20 and the man is at least 30 years older and won’t stop harassing us
If we’re raped it’s our fault
Because clothing suddenly becomes relevant
If we’re abused, we’re asked
“What did you do?”
“Why didn’t you leave?”
It is forever our responsibility to police ourselves
Because the Weinsteins and Cosbys and Trejos and Turners of the world
The men who rape and murder and abuse us
Refuse to keep their hands and mouths and dicks to themselves
When is the last time a woman catcalled a man?
When is the last time a man was harassed for turning a woman down?
I’ll wait…
Women can and do abuse men
However, it’s much less common
Because women are not taught that everything belongs to us
When these abusive and violent men are confronted with their crimes
They blame everyone but them
Because they still see themselves as “good men”
THAT is what Hannah Gatsby meant
By men constantly “moving the line”
#Notallmen
Yeah, we know it’s not all of you
But there’s enough of you
That this cancer of entitlement, of women are property is international news and is destroying us
#metoo
SO FIX IT
Because assault and abuse are the only crimes in the history of the world for which we blame the victims
And I’m sick of being shamed and called names
For trying to let go of a weight that doesn’t belong to me
