Episode #5: Stories of Families Formed Through Foster Care
This month is National Foster Care Month, so we’re dedicating our Outspoken Voices podcast to hearing from two families formed through foster care.
The Porter Family
Dan and Tony always wanted to be parents and when the time was right for them to start their family it was important to both of them to adopt through the foster care system, as there are so many children needing the love of a “Forever Family”. They adopted their first son, Leon, through foster care in 2013, who was then 11 years old, and then in 2015 they added 2 1/2 year old Leland to their family. It’s been a roller coaster of love and lifelong learning and has made all of our lives more rich, exciting and full of joy than we could have ever imagined.
The Gorey-Neubert Family
Jim and Kevin were looking to be parents. Their 5 remarkable and resilient kids were looking for a home where they could all stay together. Now, during the 5th year of being together — as a family — they love, learn, and continue to grow every day.
