The magic of the mind.

Pamela Lyndon Travers, born Helen Lyndon Goff, was responsible for writing the Mary Poppins books. She was born in Australia in 1899 but mostly lived in England. She grew up as a writer and published her first book in 1933. She was also a professional Shakespearean actress and she danced on stage to the embarrassment of her family.

She said when she wrote the Mary Poppins books, she wouldn’t remember what she wrote because they wrote themselves. She would sit somewhere not to be disturbed and wake up later with the book or portions of it finished.

They meant so much to her that it took almost thirty years for Walt Disney to finally be able to buy the rights and make a musical, which she hated, and fought him tooth and nail to not make it silly and animated.

She finally sold the rights to him which set her up for life. These stories have also lived out the author as a new story, actress, and cast had been released last year.

Great stores and characters live on and on.
