Pasta wasn’t in my husbands vocabulary when we met. Anything you can put on pasta you can also put on bread, so why bother with the extra cooking time?

Fair to say then, that when it comes to pasta, my habits became our habits and that’s where our family food journey started; unimaginative student food.

Yellow rules the roost

Throughout my student years, levelling up a pasta dinner meant swapping out pasta twists for spaghetti. Yes, literally changing the shape of the pasta. This required a commitment to stand over the cooker hob for a couple of extra minutes and guide the spaghetti into the water.

The other two ingredients remained the same and the whole dish was yellow. That was as exciting as it got in my shared student kitchen at 18 years old.

Dinner party flat mates we were not. We were an eat quickly and move on with the day sort of group. Fortunately, much has changed. First though, we inject a little colour.
