Whatever It Is- Zac Brown Band

As the listener hears these words he most likely tries to put himself in this scenario. To imagine a time in his life where he was so overtaken by another that it was hard to identify the exact feeling. As Zac sings these lines, he is so contradictive that it should be confusing and yet, somehow it makes perfect sense and that’s what makes it so relatabe. Putting the lines “cut you like a knife” and “tases like sweet red wine” in the same sentence pushes two opposite and strong emotions at once, leaving the listener with both an intense hopeless and joyful feeling. It points out the intricate/complex system of human emotion and pulls at it.

“I’ve never been the type that would ever want to stay, bring ’em home at night and their gone the next day, but that all changed when she walked into my life”

This sentence evokes feeling because we can relate. I don’t think anyone truly wants to stay unattached, whether they believe that or not. Everyone wants to have someone near that they can be confident won’t leave. Humans want to be connected in a seemingly unbreakable way. Still, many people do not realize they want this until they feel they have it. Zac describes how one person can change another’s whole lifestyle. It makes the listener feel that, no matter where he is in life, any given day he could be changed forever and that gives hope.

“People ask me what it is, I tell ’em I don’t know, just something ‘bout that women makes my heart go haywire”

This, again, points out the complexities of people/emotion and reminds us that we don’t necessarily have to understand why or how we feel.
